April 20, 2017 6pm to 9pm
In partnership with Rockaway Brewing Co., Jettison Art Group presents Jodi Gerbi
A solo pop-up show featuring paintings by Jodi Gerbi
Jodi Gerbi was born in New York and grew up in Freehold, New Jersey. As a child she painted and drew to escape a tough and often frightening childhood. She graduated Syracuse University with a BFA in 1993, and spent 15 years as a graphic artist creating art for children’s clothes. Her job ended in 2008 as a casualty of the economy. This became an opportunity to finally pursue painting fully. Wanting more knowledge, Jodi went back to school and graduated with a MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2016.
Her work is about human connection, that if we strip away the specifics of what each person has experienced as individuals and just had the representation of the emotion, we could see that we are not different and feel the same basic emotions. Although these feelings represented are specific to her, they are emotions that every person has felt. Her hope that is the general representation of these feelings through the use of objects gives the viewer a way into the work.
We hope you will join us on this special night, as we celebrate the arts.
We want to serve nachos done right. Our focus is on simple, fresh ingredients with big flavor. Each order is built so that every bite has the right amount of ‘stuff’. We braise our pork for hours and grill our chicken to perfection to ensure they are tender and savory. Our tortillas come from a local Brooklyn tortilleria which prides itself on quality products. Our salads are made fresh and with care to compliment the main ingredient, and our cheese while plentiful does not overwhelm the dish but adds a cool creamy finish
